August is the start of Wollongong Modern Quilt Guild’s Vintage Made Modern Charity Quilt Challenge. On Saturday 17th August participants will raid the huge WMQG stash for vintage fabric yardage to use in the Challenge. This will give you time to plan your design, prewash fabric and start cutting before the Extra Sew Day on Saturday 31st August (9am-4pm).
Here are the Challenge Guidelines:
You will be making the quilt for a charity of your choice
You will use vintage fabric from the WMQG stash
You can add your own solid fabrics to compliment the vintage fabrics
You will use the vintage fabrics + the solid fabrics to create a modern quilt
You can make any size quilt (be sure to check what size is appropriate and useful for your chosen charity)
You can make as many charity quilts as you want using the WMQG stash
You can use the WMQG stash batting for your WMQG charity quilts
You don’t have to make the quilt by yourself
You will be provided with a Wollongong MQG quilt label to attach to your quilt
When completed the quilt must be presented at Show & Tell for photographing (and praise!)
We will aim to have the challenge quilts finished by the end of the year. NB: there is no penalty for quilts not finished by the deadline
If you choose a charity that doesn’t need a quilt, but needs funds instead, you are welcome to raffle the quilt to raise money for your charity
Please contact me if you have any questions regarding this Quilt Challenge on firstname.lastname@example.org
This is going to be so FUN! Can’t wait to see what everyone comes up with!

Our December Sew Day is this Saturday, 15th December from 9am-1pm. We will start the day with a little Christmas Party, have a few drinks, eat some yummy food & open some pressies. Then we’ll have Sew & Tell before we get stuck into some serious last-minute-before-Christmas quilting.
Remember to bring:
1. a small plate of something yummy to share
2. a small handmade gift to give for Kris Kringle
AND, if you are super lucky I’ll even give you some fabric for Christmas!
The Modern Quilt Guild has organised a Fabric Challenge for us in association with Michael Miller Fabrics. The range is Madrona Road by Violet Craft of Portland Modern Quilt Guild, for Michael Miller! It’s a gorgeous range, described below:
Once upon a time in the windy lands of the Old West a baby girl was born to a rooted father and a gypsy mother. And so begins the story of Madrona Road, a modern, sophisticated fabric collection of crisp florals, monochromatic textures and text prints.
Now if that doesn’t get your imagination going, I don’t know what will! I’ll reveal details of the challenge on Saturday too. I’m eagerly awaiting the package of fabric to arrive from America, so I’ll let you know when it gets here!
Until then, I need to know numbers for Saturday. Please let me know if you are coming so that we don’t waste our time chasing tables on the day to accommodate everyone.
